With the courts set out in the open behind the new school the wind was again a big factor for many of our players. Our singles one player fought against his opponent’s unrelenting forehand and his own doubts with his back hand; but through both sets the games were tight and Smith and shown his competivitve side when the points came down to deuce in many of the games. Martin was able to pull out one of the wins for Kenton. He easily came out on top in the first set but some faultering in the serves and the game strategies proved too tough for him to pull out the second; taking it to a thrid set. Once in the third set Martin found his footing and his shots improved. Hayter, holding the third singles position, fought with the weather the most and could not find the rhythm of his serve. But overcoming that battle he tacked up games one at a time and stuck to his strong long rally abilities. Our doubles found it hard to keep the consistancy going. The first doubles team of Parshall and Rogers began to have some doubts in the first set but closed it out. During the second set they were able to loosen up and find their shots which carried them easily to the win. Our second doubles team, like Martin, also fought through to a third set. Falling hard in the first set their confidence had to be re-built before the second. After a few games under their belt and their breaking of the oppenent’s serivce games they rolled to take it into the third set. After over two hours of playing though the focus and energy started to fall. Our serves held until the winds picked up at the end and the balance of service games swayed toward River Valley.
Stepping on the court today was a more mature team than last season. It was seen in the scores and by the spectators. The coaching staff would like to congratulate Martin, Parshall, and Rogers on their wins.
