The Kenton Middle School student council held the 16th annual nominating convention on Friday, October 28, 2005. The purpose of this convention is twofold; a learning experience for the students as they see first hand some of the happenings of a political convention.
Students are required to research their respective states and tell the other delegates at the convention something interesting about their state during roll call and voting times.
Candidates running for the office of President/Vice-president of student council must write and deliver speeches to the convention. The number of candidates is then narrowed for the election which will be held at the middle school on November 8, 2005.
This year the candidates for student council President/Vice-president are: Jeanie Ruddle / Emily Lawrence and Mark Fackler / Alex Kissling. Students will also be voting on an issue to shorten the school week to four days by starting school at 7:00 a.m. and going until 4:00 p.m.. Their school week would be Monday - Thursday.
