2 hour delays for testing have been canceled. We will block the first two periods of our regular day to finish all state testing. Students who took Algebra, Applied Algebra, and Math Essentials 100 will test in those subjects on Thursday and Friday this week. Students enrolled in Biology will test on Monday and Tuesday next week. Finally, students who are enrolled in Geometry or Integrated 2 will test on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Students re-taking any of these tests will do so on these dates as well. Regardless, all students will report at the regularly scheduled time (8:10) for the remainder of the school year. The Varsity Softball game vs. Elida has been moved to a HOME GAME. Varsity softball will host Elida tonight, Tuesday, May 2. The JV softball game has been cancelled due to this change. No JV make up has been scheduled at this time.
The boys tennis match @ Elida has been moved to Westwood Indoor Tennis Courts. The match will try to start as close to 4:15 as possible.
All other athletic events will go on as originally scheduled.
State Testing has been postponed for tomorrow (May 2nd). All high school students are on a two hour delay, and should report at 10:00AM. Busses will run at regular time.
There has been a slight change in the volleyball open gym times. Volleyball open gyms for girls entering grades 7-12 will still take place on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00pm and the youth will play from 7pm-8pm at KHS. On Thursdays, 7-12 open gyms will take place after school from 3:30-5:00pm and youth will play from 5pm-6pm at KHS. This schedule will begin May 2 and take place until May 26. The summer schedule will begin the week of May 29 and will be announced in the next week or two.
Graduation from high school is an event which comes only once in a lifetime. Your parents, relatives, friends and, most importantly, you deserve a graduation ceremony that will be dignified and memorable. Your cooperation is essential.
Senior Breakfast and Awards: May 16th from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Formal business attire is required. You will be permitted to leave for lunch and return to the athletic building by 12:00 p.m. for some senior only events.
Commencement: Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. We will meet in the middle school gymnasium at 6:45 p.m. where Mr. Fackler will assist you in lining up properly for the ceremony. If rain is in the forecast we will meet at the high school with ladies meeting in room 213 and gentlemen in room 201.
To Be Eligible for Graduation: A student must have satisfactorily completed all the requirements of the State of Ohio and the Kenton Board of Education; must leave no unsettled debts to the school, and must abide by the guidelines established for appearance at graduation. Students who lack the credits to graduate or who have not passed all of the OGT tests, may not participate in the ceremony.
Cap and Gown: Caps and gowns have been distributed as they arrived in the office. You will need to hang them up to let the wrinkles fall out. Remember, you have purchased the cap, gown and tassel, so they are yours to keep. If you have not ordered your cap and gown or do not plan to participate in graduation, please contact the high school office immediately. Cords and tassels will be given out at graduation practice. National Honor Society members receive gold cords. Students with a 3.75 GPA or above will receive a gold tassel, and students with a 3.50 to 3.74 GPA receive a black tassel.
Attire: Gentlemen are to wear black or dark slacks and black or dark shoes and socks. No Tennis Shoes. White shirt and tie. Ladies are to wear white or light colored dresses and white shoes. No corsages are permitted. Tassels are on the left until the ceremony concludes. You may not alter your cap or gown.
Graduation Practice: Wednesday, May 24th at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gym. All Senior’s must attend this rehearsal. Inform employers now of this date and time. We will be done no later than 3 p.m.
Fees: Must be paid prior to May 26th at 3:00 p.m. or you will not receive your diploma. Diplomas and transcripts will be withheld, if fees are not paid, in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 3313.642. Cash or money orders only.
Commencement Tickets: In the event that inclement weather dictates that Commencement is held in the high school gym, the seniors will be given only ten (10) tickets when they come to graduation practice. The location of Commencement will be announced on WKTN by 4:00 PM if the weather is threatening. We plan to televise commencement live over Channel 6 if it is in the gymnasium.
Due to the higher than expected number of re-takes, we will be operating on a two hour delay Tuesday (2nd) and Thursday (4th) next week for those not testing. Students currently enrolled in Algebra I, Applied Algebra I, Biology, and Math Essentials 100 will report at normal time (8:10 a.m.) along with those retaking any of these tests. Any student not taking these end of course exams may report to their first period class by 10 a.m. Please contact the high school with any questions.
The Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio (OIO) will once again offer high school and junior high school athletes the opportunity to come to the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio on two selected dates in May to receive their athletic physicals for the coming year. Any and all student athletes wishing to have an athletic physical completed are welcome to attend. There is no charge to the student. The two dates being offered are Monday, May 1 and Monday, May 8, 2017. Exams will begin around 5:30 pm and finishing around 7:30 pm.
Student athletes will need to have the OHSAA pre-participation physical form completed (attached below). In addition, student athletes will need a Consent/or Pre-Participation Physical form signed by a parent or guardian (attached below).
Any girls interested in playing volleyball this summer need to see Mr. Leddy or Ms. Smythe to pick up information on the summer league. Volleyball summer league is open to KHS students entering grades 9-12 for the 2017-2018 school year.
The boys and girls high school track team participated in a quad meet at Elida last night, Tuesday, April 25. The boys and girls teams each finished 3rd out of 4 teams. Below are the complete results. The track team is back in action on Friday when they travel to Benjamin Logan for their annual invite.
