Next week, all Kenton City Schools’ elementary students will be taking the Ohio’s Achievement Assessment. According to the Ohio Statewide Assessment handbook:

“[t]he Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA) are designed to meet both state and federal law and to measure student achievement of Ohio’s academic content standards. Reading and mathematics tests are required to be administered annually in grades 3-8; and a science test in grades 5 and 8.”

We would like to remind parents that a restful night’s sleep, a supportive attitude at home, and a good breakfast have been shown to make a positive difference in student achievement scores. Attendance is very important on testing days. Taking tests on a make-up day is difficult for students because there are more distractions and because students taking make-up tests are missing the activities of their peers back in the classroom.

Students may take advantage of the test preparation practice exercises available online through the Ohio Department of Education website. Just follow these simple steps.

  1. Go to the Ohio Department of Education Statewide Testing Website
  2. Click on Practice for the Test
  3. Either input User ID and Password or just click on Take a Test without Logging In

There are many more resources available at the above mentioned site.

Grade 3, 4 & 5 are being assessed in Reading on Monday (4/19), Math on Wednesday (4/21) and Grade 5 Science on Friday (4/23).
