Recently there have been diagnosed 2 cases of chickenpox at KMS and 1 case at Hardin Central.

There is risk for exposure to this virus for the following health conditions:

  • current chemotherapy of anyone exposed to the child with chickenpox
  • current immunosuppressant medications – steroids, etc.
  • first trimester pregnancy

The incubation period for this disesase is 14- 21 days. The lesions appear as small clear fluid filled blisters on the skin. Even with children who have had the chickenpox vaccine ( varicella), some cases are still reported in this population. If you have questions about the health of anyone in your family regarding exposure, please contact your health care provider or the Kenton Hardin Health Department.
